Planning Commission hears updates on Hotel Laguna, Pacific Edge, South Laguna fire station and 1110 Glenary St.

Staff said the separate bankruptcy case involving Hotel Laguna had been dismissed earlier; since that dismissal, staff reported, "there has been a private action filed by one of the blenders for Hotel Laguna," and that a next hearing is expected around Oct. 1 or Oct. 6, 2025, with the exact date not specified in the meeting. Staff said that private action relates to the Hotel Laguna property only and that they had not been made aware of separate filings for other properties that were part of the previously dismissed bankruptcy.
Staff also said the Pacific Edge matter is expected to be scheduled for hearing before the commission on Oct. 15, 2025.
Commissioners were told that the South Laguna Fire Station — a project previously approved by the City Council — will be brought to the Planning Commission not for approval but as an opportunity for commissioners and the public to provide feedback to the city manager on landscaping, exterior building color and finishes, and materials. Staff emphasized that the upcoming review is a feedback session rather than a decision item.
The commission was also told that an item concerning 1110 Glenary Street (described in the meeting as the Chris Abel building on the corner of Oak Street) is forecast to return to the commission on Oct. 15, 2025.
No formal votes or decisions on these projects were taken during the Sept. 17 meeting; staff framed the updates as status reports and scheduling information for future hearings.
Questions from commissioners focused on timing and scope; staff repeatedly noted some dates were approximate and that additional details would be provided as hearings approach.
