Board approves routine items, names advocacy liaison and adopts tax base proportions; accepts drum-kit donation

The Pelham Board of Education on Sept. 16 acted on several routine motions and a few notable items.
The board unanimously approved the appointment of Catherine as the district's New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) advocacy liaison and voting delegate for the 2025-26 year. The board also voted to adopt the 2025 adjusted base proportions (homestead/non-homestead assessment proportions) to be used in preparing 2026-27 tax rates; administration recommended the option that would produce a lesser impact on homestead property owners.
The board approved a consent agenda covering multiple financial and personnel items (agenda items 6.3'6.8 and 8.1'9.1) including transfers, AS-7 BOCES service reporting, service-provider approvals and multiple leave and appointment items. The board accepted a donation to the PMHS/PMMS music department: a 1975 Ludwig natural maple custom'super classic drum kit with hardware and cymbals valued by the district at $3,500, donated by Vincent Pellegrino.
The board convened a public hearing on the revised districtwide safety plan (see separate coverage) and later closed the hearing; this re-opened comment period was required because the state added a cardiac component after an earlier posting.
