The Geary County Board of County Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Recovery Month in Geary County.
The proclamation, read aloud during the meeting, said behavioral health is an essential part of overall health, that prevention and treatment are effective, and that recovery is possible. It cited national statistics included in the proclamation text: roughly 48 million Americans with a past‑year substance use disorder and that a minority of those receive treatment; the proclamation also noted that overdose deaths have risen since 1990 and cited the federal organizations that observe Recovery Month.
Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the proclamation; the document will be distributed to local partners and placed on the county website and in county communications, staff said.
