The Franklin County Board of Commissioners recorded several routine approvals during its Sept. 10 meeting, including adoption of prior meeting minutes, two rezoning requests and formal permission for an Ottawa student council event on the courthouse lawn.
The board approved the meeting minutes from Sept. 3 as part of the consent agenda. Commissioners recorded an affirmative roll-call vote.
Public comment included a request from the Ottawa student council for use of the courthouse lawn on Oct. 8 from about 5:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a homecoming block party and parade. The chair responded affirmatively and the request was granted during public comment.
The commissioners approved two rezoning applications recommended by staff and the planning commission. Rezoning application 250790046 concerns a parcel commonly described as 1282 Shawnee—staff said the applicant proposed creating a 28-acre split from a 229-acre parcel to allow different ownership for family trust purposes; the 22-acre portion with a house already has required utilities. Staff and the planning commission recommended approval and the board voted to rezone the parcel as requested.
Rezoning application 25070045 involves property at 2680 Reno Road, roughly two miles north of Ottawa. The application rezoned five acres containing an existing house to the RE district so the house could be separated from agricultural land; the remaining 33 acres were to be redistricted to A2. Planning staff and the planning commission unanimously recommended approval and the board approved the rezoning.
The board also noted a budget hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. that evening.
