Chase County commissioners voted Sept. 15 to exceed the county's revenue-neutral rate and adopted the county's 2026 budget, actions the board approved by motion after a public hearing.
During the revenue-neutral-rate hearing, a commissioner made a motion "to exceed the Chase County revenue neutral rate of 58.345." The motion was seconded, a roll call included Commissioner Hazleton voting "yes" and Commissioner Miller voting "yes," and the board declared the motion carried. The board then voted to adopt Resolution 2025-04 "to levy a property tax exceeding the revenue neutral rate," and later moved to adopt the 2026 Chase County budget. Commissioners then closed the revenue-neutral-rate hearing and resumed the regular session.
The board also approved warrants dated Sept. 15, 2025, and accepted minutes recorded for the Aug. 29 meeting. In separate action the commission accepted the resignation of Chase County Treasurer Dow Wilson, effective Aug. 31, 2025.
All procedural motions were moved and seconded and carried by voice vote as recorded on the meeting audio.
Why it matters: Exceeding the revenue-neutral rate allows the county to collect more property tax revenue than it would under a strictly revenue-neutral calculation; adoption of the 2026 budget implements county spending for the coming year and triggers department and vendor funding consistent with that appropriation.
