Cass County recorder reports steady document recording, fraud-guard outreach and retirement notice

The county recorder told commissioners the office has recorded 15,729 documents year-to-date, roughly equal to the same point last year, and that e-recordings remain steady at 85% of submissions. The recorder said staff are working on back-indexing older digitized images as time allows.
The recorder also reported presenting on deed fraud at a local senior safety academy and promoted a free fraud-alert product that currently has about 1,200 subscribers. The recorder said outreach and media attention tend to boost enrollment in the fraud-alert service.
The recorder announced a retirement notice; the recorder said their last day will be Feb. 6, 2026 and that they have served about seven years in the present role. Commissioners thanked the recorder for advance notice to allow for transition planning.
