Prospect Forestation members set canopy-tree order deadline, confirm ArborFest for the 25th; flags due by Nov. 1

At a Sept. 11 meeting of the Prospect Forestation Committee, members said they must finalize orders for the canopy tree program by the end of next week and confirmed that ArborFest will be held on the 25th (the meeting record did not specify the month). Organizers also said flags marking participating properties will be in position by Nov. 1 and available for pickup at city hall.

Committee members said the written outreach about the canopy program had not yet been distributed. A staff member handling communications had received materials from Ron, and members asked Ron and John to follow up so the community notice could be sent promptly. Committee members emphasized the need to finalize orders quickly so plantings and related logistics can proceed on schedule.

Organizers said they will prepare a spreadsheet listing participants by subdivision to track flag placement and follow up where flags are not positioned. Committee members discussed planting timing and said typical practice is to schedule planting around late November or by Dec. 1 for some projects; the meeting record noted that dates for actual planting may vary.

The committee also confirmed that a memorial tree selected for Jim Phelps will be a swamp oak. Members said they would collect and share the selections once contracts and orders are received. On plaques, one staff member asked whether Ron or the committee should order the plaque; Ron said he preferred the committee handle ordering and that he would accept receipt of the finished plaque.

The meeting concluded with members asking Linda to resend canopy-program materials to John and other staff so distribution can proceed. The committee adjourned and scheduled its next meeting for Oct. 9.
