Metro Council representative Scott Reed told the Prospect City Council on Sept. 15 that public safety is his priority for District 16 and urged local officials to press state and Metro agencies on staffing and facility openings.
Reed, who introduced legislative assistant Jared Towns, said: "The theme of what I wanted to talk about tonight, basically is public safety," and described recent efforts to improve Louisville Metro Police Department staffing after pay increases made local recruiting more competitive. He said the most recent recruit class was "completely full." Reed also called for the state‑funded youth detention center to be reopened, saying, "We must get our youth detention center reopened," and argued that delays were contributing to arrests being handled outside the immediate area and to repeat offenses.
