Yamhill committee to draft downtown design standards, schedule October work session

The Yamhill Economic Development Committee on Tuesday, Sept. 2 discussed drafting downtown design standards aimed at preserving the town’s historic character and encouraging pedestrian-friendly development, and agreed to hold a work session in October to produce a framework to send to the planning commission.

Committee members spent the meeting reviewing recent outreach to local business owners and examples from other Oregon towns as they shaped recommendations that would guide future storefronts, new construction and public spaces. The discussion covered preferred building materials, window transparency, setbacks, facades, streetscape elements such as trees and lighting, and ways to activate public space with outdoor seating, markets and events.
