The board moved and unanimously approved acceptance of Watson’s retirement announcement. Board president and members praised Watson’s service and said the department and board will collaborate on a transition schedule and search for a successor. Watson told the board he will remain in his post until the board has identified a suitable replacement and the parties agree on timing.
The board instructed department staff to coordinate next steps on recruiting and transition planning; no specific timeline for the appointment of a successor was recorded in the meeting.
