Attorney Scott Gordon explained the statutory process for disorganization and attachment, which under state law requires the school board’s resolution, a voter referendum, and approval by receiving districts. Gordon said USD 334’s board requested a multiple‑attachment plan, provided detailed boundary descriptions and worked with neighboring districts over about a year to draft the proposal. He said the Cloud County election office needed final ballot language before early voting began, which prompted the board’s expedited consideration.
Board members voted first to suspend the board’s usual policy on timing for action so the item could be placed on the November ballot; that motion passed on a 10–0 vote. The board then voted 10–0 to approve the disorganization resolution as presented. If county voters approve the plan in November and receiving districts also approve within 30 days of a favorable vote, the board will issue a final order disorganizing USD 334 and assigning territory effective July 1 of the next fiscal year.
Other formal actions recorded in the meeting included a 9–0 vote to approve board travel items and a unanimous acceptance (9–0) of Commissioner Watson’s announced retirement; the board indicated it will work with the department on transition timing and recruiting a successor.
