Centennial High student leaders report spirited start to year, launch student senate and homecoming plans

Student representatives Ijer Castro (ASB president) and Easton Hopkins told the school board Sept. 10 that the school year started with strong turnout and energy, including senior sunrise, a welcome-back assembly, and a club fair with more than 32 clubs and activities. They said students are starting a new student senate to gather representation from advisories once per month.
Castro described senior sunrise, a welcome-back assembly and a club fair during both lunches that showcased clubs including Key Club and National Honor Society. He said the student senate will elect one student from each advisory to meet monthly to collect perspectives across school communities.
The students outlined homecoming plans: a tailgate, a parade beginning at Centennial Middle School traveling through neighborhoods to the high school, halftime performances and a dance with a fairy-tale theme designed to include multiple cultures. The parade is scheduled for Oct. 3, ahead of the varsity football game versus Park Rose.
Board members congratulated the students on their first report and asked them to share feedback on the district's cell-phone policy implementation at future meetings.
