The Gunnison City Council ratified a change order at a construction contract for GHIL site improvements that will add material and stabilization work to the camping and parking areas. Council members approved the change and authorized funding for the additional work.
City staff reported that Rasmus Excavation completed the contract’s original scope — parking construction and access road grading — and that additional, time-sensitive work was needed to stabilize a dusty camping area between two vehicle aisles. The recommended change order adds approximately 1,250 tons of material to that area, staff said. The total project estimate is now about $127,000; the original budget was $120,000.
Staff also said the project’s grant support increased during the work, with the state award growing from $17,000 in the original budget to $40,000, which reduces the city’s net contribution though staff still expect to cover the full change order from project funds. Councilman Anderson moved to ratify the change order; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call.
Council members said the added work aims to reduce dusty conditions and make the camping area safer and more usable; staff instructed the contractor to compact and add material in a way that preserves capacity for campground users. The council recorded unanimous approval on the motion to proceed with the change order.
