Green River council approves purchase of replacement Ram 3500; options for snowplows and bed remain negotiable

The council approved the purchase of a 2024 Ram 3,500 chassis and utility bed through the state cooperative agreement at a meeting on Sept. 9, authorizing acquisition of a replacement vehicle for the city fleet.

Staff presented a cooperative-agreement price that included a chassis price of $58,735 plus options including a utility bed (quoted at about $11,322) and two snowplows. With the quoted options included, staff reported a total of $92,858.79. The staff presentation showed the price could be reduced by dropping one or both snowplow options, with an estimated low configuration near $72,000 and an intermediate configuration near $82,000 depending on options chosen.

Officials discussed accessory choices such as orange flashers and a bedliner and noted other cities’ fleet choices when considering whether to include a bedliner. Staff recommended authorizing a purchase “up to” an amount that would accommodate the selected options.

A motion to approve the purchase carried at the meeting. The roll-call portion of the record shows affirmative votes recorded as “Larry? Aye. Both? Aye. Kent? Aye. Ben? Aye.” Those names were recorded on the meeting transcript as voting yes; the mayor announced the motion passed.

Staff said the truck will replace an older vehicle that is near the end of service life; additional procurement steps (final option selection and bed installation) will follow and will be managed through the approved cooperative purchase process. The council did not adopt a final configuration at the meeting; staff retained discretion to omit optional snowplows or other accessories to meet budget constraints.
