Jefferson City superintendent presents MSIP strategic and assessment plans; board approves policy updates and schedules closed session

Superintendent Doctor Beaulieu presented Jefferson City Schools' district strategic plan and assessment calendar required by the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP), outlining five priorities for the year and asking the board to approve the assessment plan as part of the consent agenda.

Beaulieu told the board the strategic plan rests on five priorities: increasing student achievement, narrowing achievement gaps between total and subgroup populations (for example, students with IEPs), achieving college and career readiness, staff professional growth, and — newly added this year — community and family engagement. "Data drives that plan. It drives all of the work in that plan," Beaulieu said, describing action steps that include continued professional development, a tiered system of supports for academic and behavioral needs, and local unit assessments that predict performance on MAP and EOC exams.

Beaulieu noted the assessment plan is substantially the same as the prior year but adds a parent survey in October to match staff and student survey themes. He asked the board to approve the assessment plan during the consent-agenda vote later in the meeting.

The board also received a brief finance note: a board member reported the district will explore refinancing opportunities through Stifel, with paperwork expected to proceed over the following months and finalization targeted for December pending favorable rates.

On policy updates, the board's policy committee (chaired by Suzanne Luther, who was not present at the meeting) reviewed required revisions prompted by new state laws.
