Committee recommends Octavia Rodney for Internal Audit Commission appointment

The Operations Management, Budget and Government Accountability Committee voted Sept. 17 to send to the full City Council a favorable recommendation to appoint Octavia Rodney to Hartford's Internal Audit Commission.
"In addition to wanting to give back to the city of Hartford, this allows your opportunity to oversee financial regulations and ensure financial accuracy and integrity is met," Octavia Rodney said when asked why she sought the appointment.
Committee members praised Rodney's volunteer interest and accounting background. Council President Surgeon said Rodney told him the timing was right to volunteer after raising her children; Councilman Thomas and others thanked her for stepping forward. Councilman John Gale noted the internal audit commission's role in reviewing processes like the unpaid receivables discussed earlier in the meeting and described that kind of review as typical commission work.
The chair entertained a motion and the committee approved sending the appointment to the full City Council with a favorable recommendation by voice vote. Staff will place the item on an upcoming City Council agenda for a final vote.
