Arlington begins overhaul of comprehensive plan introductory chapter and guiding principles
Summary
County planning staff launched an update to Arlington’s comprehensive plan introductory chapter to reflect new priorities — racial equity, climate change, health and economic resilience — and described broad outreach including focus groups, community liaisons and a vulnerability mapping tool.
Arlington County staff on Sept. 16 described the start of a multi‑month effort to update the introduction and guiding principles of the county’s comprehensive plan — the long‑range policy framework that guides land use, transportation and other county decisions.
Project lead Rosalie (staff) told the County Board the update will produce an introductory chapter with data about life in Arlington today, a set of guiding principles tailored to county priorities and an outline for updating the plan’s 12 elements over time. “The comprehensive plan serves as a long‑term road map for the community’s growth, development and quality of life,” she said.
