Council adopts Safe Streets and Roads for All safety action plan resolution

The Bristol Town Council voted Sept. 10 to adopt a resolution endorsing the town’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) safety action plan. Diane Williamson, director of community development, said the document is substantial and that adoption makes the town eligible to pursue future grant funds from state and federal programs to implement actions in the plan.
The council continued earlier review to allow members additional time to read the plan; at the Sept. 10 meeting the council moved to adopt the resolution. Motion: adopt the resolution in support of the Safe Streets and Roads for All safety action plan; motion made by Aaron, seconded by Tony; vote: all in favor.
Why it matters: adopting the plan is a prerequisite to apply for SS4A and similar funding sources and signals municipal intent to prioritize pedestrian and roadway safety. Staff said the plan must be approved by relevant state and federal agencies before implementation grants can be pursued.
