Developer plans 60,000-square-foot supermarket at Walnut Hill Plaza, council told

The owner of Walnut Hill Plaza plans a larger supermarket than originally announced, a resident told the Woonsocket City Council on Sept. 15, 2025.
Emily Haining Sheehan reported that the supermarket design is in the architectural phase and that the building would now be about 60,000 square feet rather than 30,000. She said the adjacent warehouse space will support the supermarket’s front-end operations rather than serving as a regional distribution hub.
Sheehan also said H&R Block is planning to open at the plaza and that Savers will expand into an additional 10,000 square feet in January, with demolition already underway where an old ice-cream parlor once stood. She said the plaza auction was open that day and would close Sept. 17; the property had not yet met reserve at the time of her comments.
Council members received the update; no council vote or action followed at the meeting.
