Providence City Council receives Housing Crisis Task Force report and approves a slate of routine items

The Providence City Council on an unspecified date received the Housing Crisis Task Force report and approved a series of routine agenda items, including the first-time passage of items 10 through 24 by roll-call vote and approval or referral of later items on the consent calendar.

Council members described the Housing Crisis Task Force report as the product of work begun in 2023 and emphasized the document is recommendations, not an ordinance. "If you look at this report, which I encourage every council person to take this report to your neighborhood after you study it yourself and engage your community in the conversation," Councilwoman Harris said. "This report... served to me like it's a menu."

Harris, who led the task force discussion at the meeting, told colleagues the report compiles background research and community input gathered over more than two years.
