The Jackson Public School District board approved a slate of routine administrative items, including a workers’ compensation insurance renewal, vendor approvals, an amendment to a technology contract, a revised emergency-operations plan, and the monthly financial report.
Key approvals recorded during the meeting included:
- Workers’ compensation insurance renewal: The board authorized the Evans Agency to continue workers’ compensation coverage with BIDCO Insurance Company (renewal premium approximately $1,800,000; about $118,000 less than the prior year). The administration said proposed claim services include medical bill containment, nurse case management, medical treatment review and legal defense.
- Photography vendors: The board approved a recommended list of photography vendors to provide school photography services on an as-needed basis for the 2025–26 school year.
- Alliance Technology contract addendum: Trustees approved an amendment to purchase additional scanning units for schools under the existing Alliance Technology agreement.
- Revised District Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) for 2025–26: The board approved updates to the district EOP, including a new one-page protocol titled "explosion aircraft down on campus" in the response section, clarified visitor badge procedures and guidance on locked doors during imminent-threat alerts. Administrators said school-based plans and monthly drills remain the operational source for classroom-level procedures.
- American Heart Association event transportation grant: The board approved acceptance of a grant from the Mississippi Heart Association to cover transportation costs for about 100 students to attend a STEM event at the Mississippi Children’s Museum; the association covers other event costs.
- Monthly financial report: The board approved the monthly financial report for the period ending Aug. 31, 2025. Administration reported a preliminary unaudited beginning fund balance of $22.8 million for fiscal 2026 and noted revenues were lower than expenditures by about $2.1 million as of Aug. 31. Special-revenue and federal drawdown timing was cited as a driver of some temporary variances.
- Consent agenda items (finance, general, personnel) and a motion to close for executive session: The board approved the consent items and later voted to close the meeting for executive-session consideration.
Motions were moved and seconded as recorded in the meeting minutes; recorded votes on the listed items were unanimous with trustees responding "Aye" and no nays recorded.
