Superintendent Kelvin Green opened the meeting with remarks on district professional development and a broad set of priorities for the 2025–26 school year.
Dr. Green highlighted a districtwide professional-development day that brought teachers together for coaching, writing instruction and training on distance learning tools. He said the Office of Teaching and Learning hosted a full day of professional learning on Sept. 12 and described the sessions as "like a mini conference" held across multiple school sites.
The superintendent said the district has lifted three "big rocks" for the year: increasing and improving scholar writing across content areas, further developing the district’s coaching capacity, and improving customer service through timely, consistent and empathetic communications.
Dr. Green also reflected on persistent student needs. He said some scholars enter school years well behind grade level — "starting way behind" the apparent starting line — and that the district’s staff must work to close learning gaps. He noted progress in district ratings over his tenure and urged continued community engagement: "We're locked in. We're focused," he said, while acknowledging more work remains.
The superintendent closed by thanking staff, naming Dr. Smith and Dr. Cormack for leadership in professional learning, and directing the public to the district’s online channels for more information.
