Caller urges Jackson Public Schools to restore ‘Obama’ name at Northwest campus

Phillips said the campus — which she described as carrying an "Obama" program — lacks signage identifying it as Obama Elementary Magnet School and that restoring the name would preserve the legacy of educators and students who championed the original naming. "By allowing the Obama name to decline or disappear, we ignore the works of those...students and educators who came up with the idea several years ago," Phillips said.
She said renaming fits the surrounding Presidential Hills neighborhood and argued that the district should not let the name lapse. The comment was delivered during the public comment period; no board action or formal response was recorded at the meeting.
