New Caney ISD board approves consent items, authorizes sanctions filings and starts negotiations on two land purchases

The New Caney Independent School District Board of Trustees on Sept. 15 approved routine consent items and personnel recommendations, authorized the superintendent to pursue sanctions for two employees who the district says abandoned contracts, and approved beginning negotiations to buy two parcels of land for future district facilities.
During the consent calendar, the board voted to approve minutes, financial reports, purchasing reports, construction reports and administrative services items. "Motion by Mr. Alters and a second by Miss Trout," the board recorder said; the board chair declared the motion carried after a voice/hand vote. The personnel report — the monthly list of recommended hires, resignations and other personnel actions — also passed on a motion that the board recorded and carried.
On a personnel discipline matter, the board considered reports from closed session and then voted to find that "good cause does not exist" for two employees' contract abandonment and to authorize the superintendent or his designee to submit written complaints to the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). The board made the authorization following a motion by Mr. Walters and a second by Mr. Trout; the chair recorded that the motion carried.
The board also authorized the superintendent to begin negotiations to purchase two tracts of land for future campuses or district facilities. Trustees approved entering negotiations for approximately 13 acres adjacent to Crippen Elementary along Cumberland Boulevard and for approximately 100 acres south of Gene Campbell Road and west of FM 1485 in Montgomery County, directing the superintendent or his designee to "negotiate, finalize and execute all documents related" to each transaction. The 13-acre motion was moved by Mr. Alters; the 100-acre motion was moved by Ms. Sharpen and seconded by Ms. Tompkins. In each case the chair recorded the motions as carried after voice/hand votes.
The board met in a closed session earlier under the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code chapter 551, citing personnel (Gov. Code §551.074), attorney consultation (§551.071) and deliberation regarding real property (§551.072). Trustees reconvened in open session and recorded the actions described above.
