Council adds litigation item on Fantasy Balloon Flights to closed session in unanimous vote

The Cathedral City City Council voted unanimously Thursday to add a closed-session item to discuss existing litigation in the case of Cathedral City v. Fantasy Balloon Flights.
The city attorney asked the council to add the matter as an item of subsequent need under California Government Code section 54954.2(b)(2), saying the federal court had scheduled a mandatory settlement conference that would take place before the council’s next meeting. The attorney read the case number as 5:25-CV-01490-SSS-DTB and described the matter as “a conference with legal counsel with regard to one matter of existing litigation, Cathedral City versus Fantasy Balloon Flights.”
Mayor Pro Tem Gregory moved to add the item; Council Member Lam seconded. Roll-call votes recorded “aye” from Council Member Carnivale, Council Member Gutierrez, Council Member Lam, Mayor Pro Tem Gregory and Mayor Ross. The motion carried by a unanimous vote, and the council recessed to closed session later in the meeting to address the matter.
The council also received notice in closed-session reading of a separate real-property negotiation item concerning property at 68010 Ramon Road; the city’s negotiator for that matter is John Corella. No public comments were made on the closed-session items before recess.
The council did not announce the outcome of the closed-session discussions during the public portion of the meeting.
