Clinton City held a badge-pinning and oath-of-office ceremony Sept. 9 at meeting headquarters, where the council and city officials introduced a new deputy chief and several new firefighters.
The city’s fire chief presented Deputy Chief Nick Jarvis, who “has been with the city 14, 15, 15 years,” as a returning senior leader and led the badge pinning for new hires, including a full-time paramedic the department said it recruited from Layton and three part-time firefighters. The chief said, “Mikey is amazing, and we're so lucky,” when introducing one of the new full-time hires who previously worked in Layton and chose Clinton.
The ceremony included brief introductions of part-time hires John Growcock, Kobe Bailey Bailey and Levi (last name not specified), and the department administered the oath of office. The fire chief noted the appointment followed a promotional process that filled the vacancy left by Deputy Chief Benavides’ retirement.
Council and city staff joined the firefighters and families for group photographs after the oath. No formal council vote was required for the badge pinning or the sworn appointments, and the chief described the selections as the result of internal testing and competitive interviews.
The ceremony also included informal remarks thanking firefighters, police and public-works staff for city service. The council proceeded to other agenda items after the presentation and photographs.
