Willis ISD reports enrollment gains and projects slight fiscal surplus; attendance slightly down from prior year

Willis ISD reported a net enrollment increase and a slight dip in attendance during the board meeting on Sept. 10.
A district staff presenter reported total student enrollment of 9,614 as of Sept. 10 and described gains of 92 students at the high- and middle-school levels and 206 students at the elementary level for a month-to-month total increase of 402 students. The presenter also said the district’s year-over-year net increase was 319 students.
The presenter reported the district’s current average daily attendance at 95.09%, slightly below last year’s 95.31%. Campus administrators are implementing outreach and strategies to encourage attendance, the presenter said.
On finance, a district finance staff member told the board the district expects to close fiscal year 2025 with a slight surplus and that a near-final state aid report from the Texas Education Agency (TDA) supports the revenue projection. The presenter said the district’s budget is "just north of $90,000,000" and that the district is completing year-end reconciliations.
The presenter also said the district will present its district financial integrity rating report at the Oct. 8 board meeting. Trustees did not take additional action on these informational items during the Sept. 10 meeting.
