Police leadership reviewed department budget lines, reporting the department expects to be at 21 sworn officers (full staff) in the 2025–26 budget cycle. Department officials said part-time dispatch and other staffing levels remain unchanged and that the department also relies on a mix of general fund and local income tax (public safety) funds to pay personnel costs (the split currently about 50/50, staff said).
Budget items discussed include replacement of patrol rifles (noting many are aged, some from 2001), ongoing annual costs for policy and records systems (Lexipol, Spillman), and recurring fees for taser and Axon systems. Chief said camera systems (flock cameras and other dash-cam retrofits by Utility Inc.) have been helpful for investigations; the department budgets maintenance and contract fees for those systems.
Council members asked about vehicle selection and the city’s seven-year replacement schedule; staff said the Ram/Charger/Tahoe choices have been tested and the department is seeking durable, low-maintenance fleet vehicles. Staff cautioned some equipment vendors command high annual fees, and that technology contracts are increasing departmental operating costs.
