Board appoints ad hoc data-governance committee to support 2026 sunset report; Dr. Bruce Davidson named

Chair Dara Thompson appointed Dr. Bruce Davidson Aug. 20 to an ad hoc data/governance committee to work with staff on the board’s 2026 sunset report. The committee will review data tables, drafts and narrative language; staff will recruit one additional naturopathic doctor for technical review.
The California Board of Naturopathic Medicine on Aug. 20 established an ad hoc data-governance committee to help staff prepare the board’s 2026 sunset report and appointed Dr. Bruce Davidson to serve on the committee.
Rebecca Mitchell, the board’s executive officer, said staff will prepare data tables and narrative drafts for the committee to review and requested one or two board members to serve on a small ad hoc team that will review and align narrative and data ahead of full board meetings. Mitchell described a schedule of meetings to meet sunset deadlines and asked for a volunteer to work closely with staff to refine the report.
Board member Bruce Davidson volunteered and Chair Dara Thompson appointed him to the committee during the meeting. “I would be great because I... I’m not an ND, and I think I would be grateful for the participation of someone who can look at this material with me who brings the ND perspective,” Davidson said in discussion; later he confirmed he was willing to participate, and the chair announced the appointment.
Mitchell said staff plans a mid-September working session (tentatively Sept. 17), the board’s scheduled October meeting (Oct. 8), a November meeting (tentatively Nov. 19) to approve the final report, and an early-December check of the publication draft before submission. The committee will review draft narrative and data, propose edits and return recommendations to the full board.
