Board approves $49,999 micro-purchase threshold for Yum Nutrition Services

The Santa Fe ISD Board of Trustees voted Sept. 15 to approve the district’s annual self-certification setting the micro-purchase threshold for Yum Nutrition Services at $49,999.
Yum Nutrition Services staff told the board this certification gives the district flexibility to make emergency or urgent purchases (for example, replacing major kitchen equipment) without running a formal competitive procurement process for each small emergency purchase. The presenter said the district began using this threshold about three years ago and must present it to the board annually.
A trustee asked how the threshold was calculated. Staff responded that the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) guidance sets a $50,000 threshold; the presenter explained that the board is asked to approve $49,999 (the $0.01 under $50,000 is how the district’s documentation was presented).
The motion to approve the micro-purchase threshold at $49,999 was moved and seconded; the board then voted to approve the item.
