Valley County staff reported receiving $20,000 from the All Lands Partnership to fund landowner outreach on wildfire mitigation and announced the ESU (Engagement and Survey Unit) public-survey process closed with 250 responses.
The county's director reporting the awards said the All Lands Partnership provided $20,000 to Adams County, Valley County and Boise County each for landowner outreach. The director said the plan for Valley County is to use the funding to produce a two-day wildfire mitigation seminar: one day to present incident-management and response decision-making and a second day for landowner outreach on defensible space, home ignition zones and grant opportunities.
Staff discussed timing options. They noted earlier practice that events after mid-May can reduce business participation; staff suggested scheduling seminars in spring to maximize attendance and to coordinate the seminar with the county's existing wildfire-preparedness activities.
The director also said the ESU survey closed with 250 responses, which exceeded expectations by more than 100 responses; staff said the ESU will present findings in the spring and to the fire working group.
This was an informational update; no formal funding appropriation or contract action was taken during the Sept. 10 meeting.
