Granbury council approves utility-box art by Rebecca Zook at SH 144 and FM 51

The Granbury City Council approved a Cultural Arts Commission recommendation to install a vinyl-wrapped utility-box art piece by local artist Rebecca Zook at the intersection of State Highway 144 and Farm-to-Market Road 51. The council’s vote was 6-0.
Tammy Dooley, director with Visit Granbury, told the council the wrap — titled "Vibrance" — has been accepted and approved by the Texas Department of Transportation for the specified box location. The project is sponsored by Janice and Ken Dickinson; under the program, the sponsor covers wrap costs, the artist receives a $250 stipend, and the wrap is expected to last approximately two to three years.
Dooley said the utility box art project is intended to enhance public spaces, support local artists and boost tourism. She told council members that this is the third wrap the city has approved: one near Mesquite Pit, one in front of the conference center (still under negotiation with the city attorney), and the box approved that night on SH 144/FM 51. Council members asked about locations and timing; Dooley said the commission is seeking more artist submissions and sponsors and that packets are available via the Visit Granbury website and at Visit Granbury offices.
Councilmember Wadley moved to approve the Cultural Arts Commission’s recommendation; Councilmember Overdear seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The council noted that each wrap is a pass-through cost to the city and that the commission pays a modest stipend to artists.
