St. Mary Parish schedules Special Olympics bowling for Nov. 6-7 at Steelwood Lanes

The St. Mary Parish School Board's Special Olympics bowling competition will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7, at Steelwood Lanes in Morgan City, organizers told the Special Education Advisory Committee.
"This year, we are splitting it up into middle and high school on the sixth and elementary on November 7. It will be held at Steelwood Lanes in Morgan City, and it will begin at 10:00 a. M.," Almitra Stansberry said.
Stansberry said the split was intended to reduce crowding at the bowling alley compared with previous years when elementary through high school participated on the same day. Committee members said staff and school contacts — including Steve Harris for questions — will coordinate the event. "If anyone has any questions about the Special Olympics bowling, please contact mister Steve Harris," Stansberry said.
Committee members said the event is a long-standing activity students enjoy and that splitting the event by school level should give participants more room.
