PCSD reports 'needs assistance' on special-education LEA determination; math and career-readiness flagged

Areas of strength: Staff said the district performs well on data reporting, transition IEPs (required when students turn 13 and up), proportionate representation checks and least-restrictive-environment access for school-age students with disabilities. These areas contributed positively to the LEA determination.
Areas needing focus: The district cited lower performance on fourth- and eighth-grade math indicators used in the LEA determination, career-readiness measures for students with disabilities (CTE access, specific assessments), timely completion of initial evaluations and a higher-than-desired rate of out-of-school suspension episodes for students with disabilities. Staff reported work to improve 60-day initial evaluation timelines and to increase CTE pathways and industry-certification opportunities for students with disabilities.
Participation and prevalence: Staff said PCSD—currently has just over 13% of students with individualized education programs (IEPs); when Section 504 plans are included, the district estimated it serves more than 18% of students with some identified support needs. Staff noted numbers are captured on the state's October count date and can change with enrollment.
Ending: District staff said they will present the LEA determination annually and continue targeted improvement efforts in math and career readiness for students with disabilities.
