Pottsgrove board approves minutes, $1.83 million in invoices and multiple personnel and contract items

The Pottsgrove School District Board of School Directors approved a series of routine and business items at its Sept. 9 meeting, including minutes, invoices, personnel appointments, contracts and grant‑funded purchases.

Minutes and finance: the board voted to approve the minutes from the Aug. 12 and Aug. 26 meetings and ratified payment of invoices for August 2025 in the amount of $1,829,213.04.

Personnel actions: the board accepted the retirement of Chris Stein, assistant principal at Pottsgrove High School, effective Sept. 26, 2025, and appointed Michael Zaccarta (currently dean of students at Pottsgrove High School) as the new assistant principal. The appointment was announced at the meeting; Zaccarta was present and introduced family members after the vote.

The board also approved a package of personnel items (agenda items 7.3 through 7.9) that included leaves of absence for three professional staff and one support staff; appointments and resignations across professional and support staff positions; an appointment of seven support staff; one rescinded appointment that had been approved earlier; and supplemental non‑athletic and club‑level appointments. One teacher, Ryan Okunitsky, was granted tenure.

Business contracts and purchases: the board approved rescinding an earlier paving change order and then approved a revised change order to address additional paving work at Lower Pottsgrove and Pottsgrove Middle School. It approved a contract with ADD Education for instructional assistant contractors. The board also approved the purchase of security cameras (supplies only) for both interior and exterior use; the presentation to the board said the camera equipment will be paid entirely by a grant and installation will be performed by district staff.

Education items: the board approved multiple education items (agenda 9.1 through 9.5) including conference attendance for four staff members at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) Special Education Leadership Conference, one staff member's enrollment in a year‑long Pennsylvania Fellowship Program for Special Education development, a virtual workshop on meeting needs of gifted students, attendance at MCIU student assistant training and attendance at the Pennsylvania School Business Officials Facilities and Transportation Conference.

Other reports and updates: board members shared reports from the Western Montgomery Career and Technical Center Joint Operating Committee, where administrators are reviewing proposals from four architectural firms to increase space at the center; the Administrative Director is reviewing the proposals with expected discussion at the Western Center's Oct. 6 meeting. Nick Ruiz Brown provided a Montgomery County Intermediate Unit update noting adoption of Discovery Education Services and a letter from Governor Shapiro concerning a state budget impasse and potential cuts that could affect services.

Votes and outcomes: each motion on the consent and action agendas was approved in the meeting record and recorded as "motion passes" or "aye" with no recorded defeats.

What the board did not do: the board did not take a final vote on the athletic stadium feasibility study; consultants presented the study and asked the board to consider approving schematic design at the next meeting.
