Easton High clay target team recognized by Talbot County board; team highlights season, community outreach and safety work

Members of the Easton High School clay target team and their coach addressed the Talbot County Board of Education on Sept. 17 to report last season’s competitive results, community service activities and upcoming practice times.
Students said the team finished first in its conference and second in the state last season, and multiple team members placed among the top competitors. A student said five team members were in the conference top 10 and the team had the top two individual spots out of 48 competitors in the conference; the female division saw team members finish second and third.
Team members described community work that included assisting sponsors at the Waterfowl Festival, running a booth at National Night Out where parents reviewed and signed contracts about gun safety and where the team distributed more than three dozen gun locks, supporting Talbot Goes Purple, and working with the Talbot Rod and Gun Club on maintenance and events. The coach said the team also helps sponsor events and supporters in the community.
Students invited the public to attend practices at the local gun club on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. and Saturdays at noon. The team presented a participation trophy during the meeting to board member Debbie Bridges in recognition of her visiting and shooting at the gun club.
Why it matters
The presentation highlighted both competitive achievements and community-safety outreach, including a gun-lock distribution effort. Students also used the board meeting as a public-speaking opportunity, and the board publicly recognized their accomplishments.
What the students said
Madison Wisher said the team finished first in its conference, second in the state, and had five members finish in the conference top 10. A student said the team provided more than three dozen gun locks to families during a community event. Team members described participating in National Night Out and Talbot Goes Purple and supporting local sponsors.
Next steps
The board recognized the team and encouraged community attendance at practices. The students will continue their season and outreach activities on the posted practice schedule.
