The Sonoma City Council voted unanimously on Sept. 17 not to initiate a process to approve additional cannabis businesses, including a second storefront dispensary, saying timing and limited staff resources make a new RFP inappropriate now.
Community Development Director Jennifer Gates presented the options: (1) do not issue an RFP at this time, or (2) instruct staff to develop and circulate an RFP along with updated fees, application guidelines and ordinance edits. Gates explained issuing an RFP would require staff time to update the ordinance, application materials and potentially hire consulting support to administer and review applications.
