District operations review: scoreboards, roofing, classroom renovations and playground upgrades completed over summer

The Bettendorf Community School District reported a series of completed summer facilities projects at the Sept. 11 board meeting, ranging from athletic upgrades to classroom renovations.

Director of operations Scott Martin summarized projects, saying two review projects at the middle school and high school were completed and that the district installed a new stadium scoreboard and an upgraded press box paid for by donations. He said gym lobby flooring was replaced, several classrooms were renovated and two elementary classrooms at Paul Norton were converted into enlarged autism‑support rooms.

Martin reviewed smaller but critical maintenance work: extensive crack‑filling on pavement to slow freeze‑thaw damage, repairs to a problematic hydrant line at Paul Norton that failed twice over the summer and playground repairs at Neil Armstrong. He said a shed at one site was relocated at no cost after contractor assistance and that chiller and transformer site work is underway with temporary fencing in place until grading and final fencing are completed.

Athletics and fields: Martin said the middle‑school field reseeding was reinstalled and is becoming playable after wet conditions impeded initial establishment. He said volleyball plates and other gym hardware date to 1973 and would be upgraded through metal‑shop adjustments. He confirmed scoreboard and press‑box upgrades were ready for the fall season.

Budget and next steps: Martin did not provide a new capital request at the meeting but warned the district will need to investigate a long‑term fix for a primary hydrant line that has failed and may require engineer and city involvement next year.
