Northwest Mosquito & Vector Control reports lower-than-average mosquito counts; residents urged to remove standing water

Nancy Jimenez Hernandez, a board representative for Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District, told the Corona City Council that colder-than-average temperatures and proactive maintenance have produced lower mosquito trap counts this year.
The district has handled 367 service requests to date, Jimenez Hernandez said, including 108 for mosquitoes and 83 for rats. She asked residents to report concerns to the district and gave a contact number: (951) 340-9792.
The district’s field representative, Eric Vallejo, described the district’s response timeline and prevention guidance. "We'd like to get out there within about 24 hours for mosquito calls," Vallejo said, and he recommended that residents remove any standing water that can hold more than a few ounces for more than two to three days. He also advised use of an EPA-registered repellent following label directions.
Council members and the district emphasized that technicians often find breeding sites homeowners miss. The district noted that it works closely with Corona code enforcement and public works to repair water features and infrastructure to reduce repeat treatments.
