The Canfield Local School District Board of Education on Sept. 10 approved a series of routine and substantive items, including minutes, the treasurer's July financial report, personnel actions, parent support organization renewals, a small increase in the daily substitute pay rate, an amended transportation-impractical list, a community reinvestment area (CRA) tax-exemption for a commercial project, and the acceptance of donations.
Minutes and financial reports The board unanimously approved the minutes from its August meeting and accepted the treasurer's July cash summary and investment report. The treasurer reported the general fund balance was lower than the previous month because of full-month expenses and the district expected improvement as cash advances arrived. The district earned more than $70,000 in interest in July in its sweep account, the treasurer said.
Personnel actions The board approved several personnel recommendations: voluntary resignations, transfers and reassignments among classified aides and support staff; acceptance of a retirement notice effective Jan. 1, 2026; and a set of classified hires and extracurricular assignments as presented in the meeting exhibits. The board also approved a list of classified substitute staff and extracurricular appointments referenced as Exhibits 4 and the accompanying resolutions.
Parent support organizations and substitutes The board approved the district's list of parent-district support organizations for the 2025–26 school year, contingent on required forms being completed by Sept. 30. The board also approved raising the daily substitute pay from $120 to $125 per day effective Aug. 14, 2025.
Transportation and CRA exemption Board members amended a resolution declaring transportation impractical for certain students (Exhibit 6) and later adopted Resolution 40-2026 approving a community reinvestment area exemption for a commercial property that received a 10-year, 100% tax exemption limited to newly constructed portions of the facility; taxes remain due on existing structures. The administration said the district had an earlier agreement with the city limiting CRAs on new residential builds but permitting exemptions on certain commercial projects.
Donations The board accepted donations totaling approximately $3,870 to athletic and robotics programs, including $2,000 from KLM Controls Inc., $1,250 from OHSAA to the CHS athletic department, $620 from the Jennifer R. Powers Group Memorial Fund and items from Robert's End Studio.
Votes All motions called for roll call passed by affirmative votes recorded at the meeting. (Roll-call names are recorded in the meeting transcript.) No votes failed or were tabled.
Next steps The board scheduled a special meeting for noon on Sept. 30 to address appropriation matters and other time-sensitive items.
This summary reflects the motions and outcomes recorded in the Sept. 10 meeting minutes as presented to the board; documentation cited in the meeting (Exhibits 4, 5, 6 and 7) provides item-level details.
