Riverside Local’s Finance & Personnel Committee opened its meeting with updates on staffing and day‑to‑day operations.
The superintendent‑area presenter reported the administration has preapproved about 15 individuals—regulars and substitutes—to fill critical positions at the start of the school year, and said the personnel agenda also contains supplemental assignments for the coming school and athletic seasons. The presenter said the cafeteria contract with Fairport (a local district) will require moving from two managers to one manager plus an assistant because Fairport is combining two schools into a single K–12 facility.
On custodial staffing, the presenter said interviews and reference checks are complete for several openings and verbal offers will go out soon. Bus operations remain strained: the committee heard that the district has been down as many as 10–11 drivers and remains about eight drivers short, with the administration combining routes and depending on every available employee with a commercial driver’s license (CDL). Two drivers returned recently, and the administration said it is working with personnel and local partners to recruit subs and find creative solutions.
The presenter said long‑term substitute postings will be posted in the coming week to cover anticipated maternity and paternity leaves starting at the end of the calendar year and into the next school year.
Separately, finance staff said a payroll position in the finance office has opened after an internal promotion; the administration is seeking an internal candidate first, then external applicants if necessary. Committee members noted payroll is a specialized role and asked that hiring prioritize candidates who can learn school payroll systems quickly.
Why it matters: filling instructional, custodial and transportation positions directly affects daily operations—classroom coverage, bus routes and food service. The committee signaled urgency on recruiting both temporary and permanent staff to avoid service disruptions.
Ending: the administration said hiring updates will appear on the personnel agenda at the next board meeting as formal recommendations for approval.
