Board hears first reading of Title IX coordinator update, reapproves special‑education model policy; staff hires approved by consensus

Title IX coordinator: Mr. Zeman, who said he is "taking the lead on both of these," explained the Title IX policy itself has no substantive changes but requires reassignment of the coordinator after the retirement of the prior coordinator. "This is really just a change in coordinator that you are approving," Zeman said, and told the board the district has posted updates to its website and completed required training.
Special education (IGBA): Zeman said the district uses the state model policies for implementation of special education and must reapprove them annually by Nov. 30. "You approved this in April because the state policies changed...This is now just, you are basically re‑approving it and you are going to do that on an annual basis before November 30 of every year," he said.
Personnel and staffing: Superintendent Jeff Wood asked the board to take items 5.1 through 5.15 as one consent motion. Wood said the district is "as strong as we've ever been" on staffing, noting recent hires in custodial and food service positions, and that a reading tutor vacancy created by a late resignation will be filled; Lori Ulbricht introduced herself as the recommended hire for that role. Wood also praised coaches and volunteers for the fall play production and thanked longtime staffer Kathy Bowles, who is adjusting her work schedule.
Board action: The board approved the consent grouping of personal items 5.1–5.15 by voice vote. The policies were presented as a first reading; no final adoption vote on the policies was recorded at the Sept. 17 meeting.
