Board hears summer facilities upgrades; change order for preschool bathrooms and bus contract renewal to be voted

The Township of Ocean Board of Education heard an update on summer facilities work and related contract items at its Sept. 16 meeting, including completion of six preschool classrooms with in-class bathrooms and a change order of approximately $4,700 related to remobilization after abatements.
School Business Administrator Hastings told the board the district completed six preschool classrooms that now “have bathrooms within the classrooms” and that new bleachers, a gym floor on the fifth-grade side of TOIS and added pickleball courts were installed over the summer. Hastings said auditorium equipment was delivered and installed at the high school and staff training is being scheduled to operate the system.
The board was notified that the project contract contained a $35,000 allowance and that work overruns increased the final cost to roughly $39,700, leaving a net change order of about $4,700 for remobilization and scheduling adjustments after an abatement was required. Hastings described the $4,700 figure as the difference between the allowance and actual overage.
Also on the agenda for later action was a one-year renewal of the district's school bus fleet management contract. Hastings said the original contract had been for three years and the one-year renewal will allow the district to go out to bid this year. The board was told contractors provide maintenance and repair services for the district's buses.
Hastings told the board that auditors from Will Cutts and Company were conducting the annual audit for the year ending June 30, 2025, with the audit to be submitted by Dec. 5. He said the district would present audit findings to the board in December or January.
No votes on the change order, contract renewal or audit acceptance were recorded at the public portion of the meeting; the business administrator indicated these items (agenda references 9.9 and the bus contract renewal) would be voted on later in the evening during the regular session.
