Business services report: August cash fell 6.5% month over month; 494 vendors paid $3.6 million

The Oconee County Board of Education received the business services report at its Sept. 15 meeting outlining August financial activity, vendor payments and year-end closeout items.

Business services representative Mr. Adams told the board the August closing cash balance reflected a 6.5% decrease from the previous month but remained strong enough to meet fiscal obligations. He said the district paid 494 vendors $3,600,000 in August.

Adams reported revenue collections for the month stood at 9.4% while expenditures were 20.7% (the expected typical monthly figure is 16.6%). He said the higher percentage reflects encumbrances totaling $3,900,000 — about 3.3% of the fiscal year — and that without those encumbrances expenditures would align more closely with expectations.

The report also included an unaudited fiscal year 2025 closeout (June 2025) that will inform carryover decisions and departmental variance review. Adams noted East Bloss collections rose 22.94% from the prior month; he referenced an additional comparative figure but did not state a clear number for that second comparison in the meeting record.

Finally, Adams summarized federal funds activity, noting those allocations are reimbursement-based and reimbursements typically lag; he said the district expects those revenues to arrive over coming months. The board had no questions and the report contained no action items.
