District begins boundary redraw work; board told official plan expected in January, parent notices in March

Oshkosh Area School District administrators told the board Sept. 10 that work on a district boundary redraw has begun and that the administration plans to bring an official plan to the board in January and notify families in March.
The boundary project is part of the district’s broader phase 2 consolidation and capacity planning. Administrators said they have formed a team that includes transportation, data and legacy experts to build scenarios that incorporate open enrollment, interdistrict transfers, current boundaries, building capacity and staffing. The goal, administrators said, is to iterate—"draw and evaluate and redraw"—to find scenarios that reduce future moves and account for capacity over a multi‑year window.
Administrators emphasized the sensitivity of boundary changes for families and said they will try to provide information earlier than the calendar suggests. Board members urged the administration to clarify that although the materials are labeled “West Side boundary changes,” the project will likely include district‑wide adjustments, particularly at the elementary level, and asked for broad outreach so parents understand how their children might be affected.
No formal action was taken; administrators said they will continue scenario modeling and return with recommendations and a public engagement plan ahead of January board consideration.
