Malden to receive $221,414 from South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund for local program

Malden will receive $221,414 from the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund Board to support a local opioid recovery program, City Administrator Seth Duncan told the City Council on Sept. 15.
“The city is set to receive $221,414 in funding, which will pay for the new position, equipment, vehicle materials, training, and more,” Duncan said during his report to council.
Duncan said staff are reviewing applications and hope to hire a program coordinator in the near future. When the position is filled, staff will present additional program details and goals to the council.
Why this matters: The grant funds a locally run program intended to respond to opioid‑related needs through staffing, equipment and outreach. The funding covers one coordinator position and associated operating needs; staff said the city will provide further implementation details after hiring.
