Staff told the URA that the U.S. Army has been conducting testing of groundwater wells in the Fort Gillum area and that the work ties to remediation obligations ahead of planned development on portions of the site.
The presentation noted that the site was previously a landfill and that remediation and bringing groundwater wells into EPA compliance may be required before development progresses. Staff identified Digital Realty, a planned data center on a parcel in the area, as one of the developments that will be affected by remediation timelines.
Staff said the Army and EPA are doing monitoring and testing and that URA staff are providing oversight to ensure all parties meet their responsibilities. URA staff said there is no immediate action required from the board and that they will continue to monitor progress and report back.
A board member asked whether any of the wells backfill the park area at Fort Gill; staff said they would check maps provided by the Army and follow up with a precise answer.
Staff also said OASIS remains part of the testing and remediation process and that more detailed maps and results will be provided as testing proceeds.
