Councilman Diehl moved to approve the permit, waive the $200 fee and the city cost charges conditioned on completion of required notifications and with Chief Johnson given final approval; Councilman Warren seconded. The council approved the motion.
Students and school staff told council the event is student-run, family-oriented and has a long local history. The council and staff emphasized that notification of affected merchants is required by the city ordinance and explained that notification protects merchants’ right to object before final street-closure approvals are issued.
