Committee members reviewed vendor responses and preliminary pricing for the police station’s site sign and an exterior police-patch feature and asked staff to finalize quotes for a change order through AP Whitaker.
The two-sided electronic road sign with an illuminated panel was quoted by the sign vendor, before contractor overhead, bond and profit, at $33,925 furnished and installed. The exterior police patch (to be furnished and installed on the building façade) was quoted at about $2,405. Taylor said those vendor prices will be included in a change-order proposal prepared by AP Whitaker; the committee expects contractor markups and bonding to be added to the vendor numbers in the formal change order.
On an aesthetic item, the committee discussed whether the triangular gable ends on two elevations should be finished in the same gray siding as the main walls or with a contrasting white Azac (trim) infill, which had been shown on original renderings. Brian (staff member) explained technical concerns about using Azac trim in that application — notably higher expansion/contraction characteristics that could exert pressure on the rake boards — and suggested painted cement board as an alternative that would preserve a white appearance while matching the lap-siding profile.
The committee voted to have Brian send alternate renderings (white gable infill vs. gray siding) to members and to ask each member to email their preference to Nate so staff can issue a direction to the contractor within a short timeframe. The committee noted the decision cannot wait a month because the contractor needs a timely consensus to proceed in the gable areas.
