Town of Lakeville voters approved a $35,000 appropriation to pay consultants to conduct a feasibility study and prepare schematic drawings for potential future public safety and town office facilities.
The motion said funds would be used for a feasibility study and/or schematic design work to consider configurations for a police station, fire station, town office building, or combinations of those facilities. Selectmen and members of the public-safety feasibility study committee told the meeting the committee had met for more than a year to review options and had recommended use of consultants to refine options, examine funding possibilities and prepare the schematic materials that grant applications typically require.
The finance committee recommended approval. The moderator called for a simple-majority vote; the article passed by majority vote.
Article proponents clarified on the floor that the schematic drawings requested are preliminary sketches intended to support grant applications rather than final architectural renderings. The appropriation covers consulting and preliminary design; any construction would require future votes and funding.
